Joy Lane and Andrew Beal are back! Andrew serves Young Church Leaders as the Content Manager and Joy as the Photography Manager. They are a huge part of what we do! In this episode, we talk about accountability and why it matters so much in ministry today. Welcome to episode 26 of the Young Church Leaders Podcast with Grant Vissers!
Takeaways from the Episode
1. Left Alone We Become the Worst Versions of Ourselves
Let’s face it, when left alone, we all have a tendency to go sideways. As Andrew said, “An Andrew alone is never going to become better.” We all need people to keep us accountable and keep us focused on Jesus and not ourselves. Live an examined life.
2. Make Accountability About More Than Just Task Management
Good accountability doesn’t just focus on getting the right things done at the right time, it asks the hard question of whether you are becoming the right person. How much does your accountability focus on your emotional, spiritual, physical and mental health? When we reduce accountability down to simply getting things done, we miss the opportunity for the greater conversation about identity. “Am I becoming the person God has made and is making me to be?”
3. Accountability is About Keeping Your Eyes on Jesus
Is Jesus the goal of your accountability? For so many of us, we grew up or have experienced accountability as a shameful reminder of just how bad of a Christian we are. Or, the flip side, is that it is permission granting and avoids the real conversation about leaving old habits and practices behind as we become more like Jesus. Accountability is hard and requires honesty and self-awareness.
What about you? How are you pursuing accountability in your day to day life?
